History & Purpose

The Educational Foundation of the CAFP’s mission is to support democratic institutions in Canada, and abroad, and to encourage young Canadians to become well-informed and engaged citizens.

It does so by funding eligible non-profit organizations that share the Foundation’s mission and who submit proposals that meet the Foundation’s criteria. These criteria are spelled out under “What We Fund“.

The Educational Foundation of the CAFP was created in 1993 by the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians (CAFP), which represents former Canadian Members of Parliament and Senators, and which shares the objective of strengthening democracy in Canada and worldwide.

By virtue of an Agency Agreement between the Foundation and the Association, former Canadians parliamentarians contribute their time and talents to the mission and purposes of the Foundation through defined programs approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
